TEAMSTERS LOCAL 493's 9th ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
will held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Pequot Golf Club in Stonington, CT. There will be many great prizes, a great dinner, and an opportunity to golf with other Teamster members and friends. More information will be coming soon.





EDWARD W. RICE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Please be advised that Local 493 will provide scholarships for members children as in the past. This year the Local is going to sponsor our 9th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Pequot Golf Club to raise funds for the Edward W. Rice Scholarship Fund. The success of the tournament will determine the amount and number of scholarships awarded. Applications for the Edward W. Rice Scholarship Awards are available for the year 2011.

Your application will be sent to you by return mail.

Eligibility requirements: Any dependent son or daughter, entering or presently attending college, of an active, paid up member of Teamsters Local 493, who has been a member for not less than two years at the applications deadline. Include a short essay on GROWING UP IN A UNION FAMILY
With remittance of your application to the Local, it is mandatory that you include a Letter of Attendance or Acceptance from the school that he/she is attending or planning to attend. The deadline to receive applications is Friday, May 6, 2011.
The drawing for the scholarships will be on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the regular monthly meeting. It is mandatory that the member submitting a son or daughter name be present at the monthly meeting scheduled for the drawing.





JAMES R. HOFFA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND


Please be advised that the applications for the 2010-2011 James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund are now available at the Local for distribution or can be downloaded from the Teamster website (www.teamster.org). All applicants must comply with the following eligibility and application criteria.


1.Be the son, daughter or grandchild of an active, retired, disabled, deceased or laid-off Teamster member who has or had at least twelve months of consecutive membership in good standing in the Teamsters Union.

2.Be in his/her last year of high school and may not apply if he/she has already graduated from high school.

3.Be in the top 15% of his/her high school class.


4.Plan to submit excellent SAT or ACT scores for evaluation.


5.The student must plan to attend a four year college or university.

The Local Union office must receive applications no later than Monday, April 3, 2011 in order to be timely in forwarding them to the IBT.
